  • Kasama Plate Shopping
  • We went to Kasama to check out a place called Kirarakan to see and possibly buy some cat design ceramics. It was nice looking at
the cute and beautiful pottery and ceramics. We only bought one piece there which was a cute round-eyed cat figure. We went to a
couple more places and bought some nice tea cups; two of which are made by the same person who made our plates that we bought in M
    ashiko. [続きを読む]
  • Yuzunoki in Kasama
  • Went to a cute little cafe before going to Kasama called Yuzunoki. It was in an old house at the base of a small hill and a rice
field. The food looked good and tasted good. Not earthshaking but definitely satisfying. If you’re ever in that part of the w
oods (literally), It’s definitely a good eat. Looks pretty too.map to Yuzunoki [続きを読む]
  • Plate Shopping in Mashiko
  • Went to Mashiko to look for some plates because we are trying to replace the old cheap plates that we have had for years. It was
fun! There seem to be a lot of nice cafes too. If you want to take a look at some traditional Japanese art, give Mashiko and its
    pottery a try. [続きを読む]
  • Cleaning of the Air Conditioner
  • Cleaned the 2 air conditioner after about 8 or 9 years. We asked a cleaning company called Duskin to do it. Not sure if it was b
etter than any other company but they definitely got cleaner. I hope it helps with my wife’s breathing problems. Here are some
pictures of before and after. [続きを読む]
  • Walnut Italian Restaurant
  • We went to a restaurant that we had gone to years before and hadn’t gone to in a while. It was one of our favorites until we found that the taste of its food was irregular. We found out that they rebuilt a new restaurant at the same location and wanted to see how it was. It was both good and bad. The taste was quite good and the new building was nice. Sadly, the presentation was not that goo [続きを読む]
  • Spanish Bar Bonito
  • After going to Costco in Tsukuba, we went to a Spanish restaurant and bar call Spanish Bar Bonito that my wife found on the intern
et. REALLY GOOD!!! All the sides were delicious and the seafood paella was great. If you are in Tsukuba and need a hit of Spain,
definitely try Bonito. Spanish Bar Bonito Map [続きを読む]
  • Pound Steak House in Narita
  • After going to visit to Narita mall, we went to dinner at Pound Steak House. It was excellent EXCEPT for the service. It isn’t a cheap restaurant but the meat is delicious. It is dry-aged beef. We had the 1/4 pound tenderloin and 1/2 pound sirloin and we wanted more. The tenderloin was really tender and both were tasty with and without wasabi and/or their onion and garlic sauce. We had the [続きを読む]
  • Oya Old Stone Quarry and Oya Temple
  • My wife, sister-in-law and I did a bit of sightseeing around Utsunomiya before visiting our niece in Tochigi in her new house. We
visited an old stone quarry which is now a historical museum of the stone industry of Oya city. You can walk through the remains
of the old underground quarry which was surprisingly cool and huge. They lit it up with a lot of colored lights which gave it a

  • Mount Takao
  • We went to hike up mount Takao on the 2nd of May. You can take a cable car and a life up part way but we are doing it for exercis
e so we hiked up all the way from the bottom. It was steeper than you would expect. It was a nice day so it was very comfortable.
We did Trail 1 going up and Trail 4 going down. There were some viewpoints on the way up to the top and after the cable car sta

  • Shoei Soba: 100% Buckwheat Noodles
  • We went to a soba noodle shop, Shoei, because one of my students really praised it. He said the noodles were made with 100% buckw
heat. Very tasty. It was really good. I had the tempura soba and my wife had the curry soba. If you want to have a good sample
of what good soba is, definitely give it a try.https://goo.gl/maps/ncjPqBLxwXP2 [続きを読む]
  • Kadoya Yakinikuya (Korean BBQ)
  • We decided to try the yakiniku shop near our place, Kadoya. I have never been there and my wife hadn’t been there for for over 20 years. It was really good. The only complaints would probably be that they kinda spice everything a little salty and there are no extras so you have to pay for everything. The interior is very old but very clean. The background music was super retro. Definitely rec [続きを読む]
  • Nokogiri Yama (Saw Mountain)
  • We decided to start off our monthly hiking trip last Saturday with Nokogiri Yama and Nihon Temple. I don’t recommend you underestimate it though, it is not easy. If you are super fit and love going up and down stairs, you might love it. If you aren’t confident, just go to the temple by car. If you live nearby just break it down in to parts. The stairs are kind of treacherous because most of [続きを読む]
  • Photos, Tuna, and a Flat Tire
  • Today, I taught a friend of mine how to shoot photos better. She did me a favor so I was paying her back. I taught her the basics
of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. She got the gist of it pretty quick. We went outside to practice when she noticed my tire was
flat. We decided I should get it fixed after lunch. We went to a seafood bowl place, Irodori, that she knows. It was really good!

  • Kimi No Na Wa (your name.)
  • I watched the movie, Kimi No Na Wa (your name.). I can honestly say it was good. If you’re into coming of age movies with a twist of fantasy, you will love it. It will make you laugh and cry. It even got mid 40’s guy like me a bit teary eyed. Definitely a good date flick. [続きを読む]
  • Yamabiko Restaurant
  • My wife was feeling like ebifurai (deep-fried battered prawns) so we searched online and found a place that has been around a whil
    e. It was in Kashima and is called Yamabiko. It was an old fashioned style place. It was tasty and filling. It is definitely b
etter than the typical family restaurant and not too pricey. Give it a try if you want a satisfying meal. &nb [続きを読む]
  • Poor Mii Problems
  • We found blood in Mii’s urine a little before New Years on the day we were going to get our cats chipped. We were convinced out
of chipping and then talked about the urine. They took a urine sample and it appeared that Mii had a bladder infection. We were
given 2 weeks worth of antibiotics because it was the holidays. Mii urine didn’t have any problems after that. W [続きを読む]
  • Ristorante Casa Alberata Xmas Dinner
  • I can honestly say that Casa Alberata is awesome. This was the first time we had gone there for dinner and they didn’t disappoint. It is a restaurant built in an old Japanese style house with a lovely garden in the very historical part of Sawara (now Katori) city. As you would expect, it was filled with couples enjoying a Xmas time dinner. Everything was excellent includin [続きを読む]
  • Meditation with a Sri Lankan Priest
  • I joined the last day of a meditation workshop by a Sri Lankan Priest on meditation. It was good. He taught us a little about the
Sri Lankan language and culture. He then taught us walking meditation and normal meditation. I felt very refreshed afterwards.
It was part of the KIFA English lounge. The Sri Lankan Buddhist Temple is located in Sawara. [続きを読む]
  • Shocked! Trump Won
  • I can honestly say I was flabbergasted that Trump won... I can't get over it. My first reaction was fear. What is going to
happen now?Trump is like the id of the American psyche. Hunger with no brakes and limits. I hope he is just going to be a puppet
to wiser advisers. Sadly, I predict that both domestic homicide and military deaths are going to rise with the American [続きを読む]
  • Saito Steak House
  • We went to Saito Steak House for lunch before going to Narita to shop. It was good and definitely reasonable. 1,250 yen for good
teppan steak. The chef keeps it to the basics; the lunch set is steak, bean sprouts, rice and miso soup. If you want a quick hit
of good meat, I would definitely recommend it. [続きを読む]
  • A Little Renovating
  • Asked a real estate friend of mine to introduce me to a floorer to replace the floor in our laundry room because of mold from a le
ak in our bathroom. We also decided to replace the wallpaper and floor in the toilet room because it would probably cheaper to do
it together. They introduced me but Mr. Sekiguchi (floorer and wallpaper) is a really busy guy. He came today at last afte [続きを読む]
