  • Liaison in Kamisu
  • Tried a restaurant that is near our house. It was pretty good. The name is French but lunch was mostly pasta dishes. They also
had paella. I ordered the shrimp and baby scallops spaghetti with cream curry sauce while my wife ordered pumpkin gnocchi gratin
with the A set. It came with a salad, soup, , some homemade pickles and a drink. There were other things on the menu that were

  • Keitaro for Chicken Lovers
  • I heard from a coworker that this place was good so we decided to try it out. It is a small place nearby and it specializes in Ja
panese fried chicken. I got the Keitaro bento (meal box) and my wife got the Otanoshimi bento. Both bentos had different kinds o

  • Driver’s License Renewal and Back to Gold
  • I renewed my driver’s license today. I did it at the police station. It was pretty painless. I went there a little before 8:30 and left about 9:20.I went to the counter and handed them the postcard that I was sent. I paid the fee and was asked to donate to some sort of association which I refused. I handed in my old license and was asked to fill out a form asking about medical conditions. Handed [続きを読む]
  • Calabresa Burger at Ole Brasil
  • One of my students who is of Brazilian descent told me about a supermarket in Kamisu that serves burgers and other Brazilian style
fast food. I wanted to give it a try so I went there after my morning work. It actually made me feel nostalgic because it reminde

  • Korean Food: Rappokki
  • We went to Costco and found a food that is the best of what people like about Korean food. It has the spiciness of kimchee, and t
he texture and taste of mochi (rice cakes) and instant noodles. It is called roppokki (don’t know the real spelling). I can h
onestly say it is awesome especially with cheese. Just eat it and you will understand. [続きを読む]
  • Ikinari Steak in Kamisu
  • My wife and I enjoyed our second time at Ikinari steak. It is good steak in a fast food like system. First you get seated and th
ey explain the system. You are seated next to each other instead of across from each other at a 4 person table, so you actually f
ace strangers while you are eating. There is a rack of dressings and sauces that is between you, but it isn’t the most comforta

  • Sunny Side Up: After Dark
  • Went here for lunch with a friend and liked it. My wife wanted to try it and also didn’t want to eat something super heavy so we gave it a try for dinner. I can honestly say it was damn good. We had the buffalo wings, quesadilla, and the garlic shrimp. Buffalo wings were different than the wings that I have had before; they were a combination of crunchy and spicy. The quesadilla was good but lack [続きを読む]
  • Sunny Side Up in Kamisu
  • Had lunch with a friend at this Hawaiian restaurant near my place. I was very surprised because it was really good. I had passed
this place tons of times but never went it. It is much bigger than it looks from the outside. I had Taco rice and it was really
tasty. I also had a dessert which was a cream filled sweet bun with cinnamon which was pretty nice too. If you’re feeling tr

  • Kurisakiya in Oarai
  • We were heading toward Costco in Hitachinaka when we decided to go to a crab place on the way there but it was closed. We then tr
ied to go to a great sushi place in Oarai that I had mentioned before called Chushin, but that was completely full when we arrived
and wasn't accepting any more customers because they were overflowing. My wife then checked the net and found a sushi place

  • Spanish Xmas Eve: Euro
  • We just enjoyed a nice Spanish meal and a great Flamenco show at a local Spanish Restaurant called Euro. The meal was pretty good
but the highlight was definitely the show. The combination of the Spanish singing, music, and the wonderful dancing was great fo
r us first timers. If you have a chance, definitely go for the show. Map to Euro [続きを読む]
  • Kotori Cafe in Mashiko
  • We dropped off my wife’s mother in Mashiko so she could take care of her great grandchild while her grandchild is taking care of her new baby. On the way to the house, we ate at a place called Koutori which we found on the net before going. It had good reviews. The interior was super retro and artsy and the food was simple but really good. The portions were pretty huge too. A tad on the expe [続きを読む]
  • Pound in Kamisu
  • This restaurant is the opposite of Pound in Narita. It isn’t about quality, it is about volume. It does a good job. The price
isn’t unreasonable for what they offer. The meat is definitely not top grade but I actually liked it. It reminded me of the m
eat that I ate as a kid. It was kinda tough and wasn’t marbled. MEATY. If that is what you like and are sick of the tender s

  • Hanamaru
  • Enjoyed a meal at Hanamaru in Kamisu. My wife had been there for work but, I had never gone. It was good for the price. Nice atmos

  • Akiyama Tsukemen
  • Went to Narita and ate at a tsukemen (dipping sauce noodles) shop called Akiyama before going to the mall. It was surprisingly go
od. The noodles were thick and the sauce was a fish base and strong but not cloying. If you are a tsukemen fan, it is definitely
a must try. The customers kept coming and coming.Map To Akiyama [続きを読む]
  • Chiyofuku in Sawara
  • I went out to practice taking photos in Sawara with the KIFA PR group. We went to lunch at this really nice restaurant, Chiyofuku

  • Weird Week: Cat Death, a Missile, and a Typhoon
  • It’s been a weird week and not in a good way. We were fostering an abandoned (in our city) cat with FIP named Jumbo in an anima
l shelter by sending money. We had visited the shelter a couple times and met him and other FIV cats. They were all really cute
. As Jumbo’s condition got worse we visited him in the hospital and a couple of times in the volunteers’ house who took him i

  • Katori Shrine Dango (dumplings)
  • I had the most delicious dumplings at Katori Shrine. I honestly didn’t think they would be that good until I ate them. The green ones were sweet with a slight taste of yomogi (grass) and sweet bean paste. The white ones were slightly grilled leaving a smoky flavor and covered with a slightly over salty sauce. Please give them a try if you are ever in that neck of the woods. [続きを読む]
  • Kasama Plate Shopping
  • We went to Kasama to check out a place called Kirarakan to see and possibly buy some cat design ceramics. It was nice looking at
the cute and beautiful pottery and ceramics. We only bought one piece there which was a cute round-eyed cat figure. We went to a
couple more places and bought some nice tea cups; two of which are made by the same person who made our plates that we bought in M
    ashiko. [続きを読む]
  • Yuzunoki in Kasama
  • Went to a cute little cafe before going to Kasama called Yuzunoki. It was in an old house at the base of a small hill and a rice
field. The food looked good and tasted good. Not earthshaking but definitely satisfying. If you’re ever in that part of the w

  • Plate Shopping in Mashiko
  • Went to Mashiko to look for some plates because we are trying to replace the old cheap plates that we have had for years. It was
fun! There seem to be a lot of nice cafes too. If you want to take a look at some traditional Japanese art, give Mashiko and its
    pottery a try. [続きを読む]
  • Cleaning of the Air Conditioner
  • Cleaned the 2 air conditioner after about 8 or 9 years. We asked a cleaning company called Duskin to do it. Not sure if it was b

pictures of before and after. [続きを読む]
  • Walnut Italian Restaurant
  • We went to a restaurant that we had gone to years before and hadn’t gone to in a while. It was one of our favorites until we found that the taste of its food was irregular. We found out that they rebuilt a new restaurant at the same location and wanted to see how it was. It was both good and bad. The taste was quite good and the new building was nice. Sadly, the presentation was not that goo [続きを読む]
  • Spanish Bar Bonito
  • After going to Costco in Tsukuba, we went to a Spanish restaurant and bar call Spanish Bar Bonito that my wife found on the intern

definitely try Bonito. Spanish Bar Bonito Map [続きを読む]
